Activities:    The Garrison Memorial Hospital and Nursing Facility activity staff provide opportunities for the residents to exercise their abilities and to continue life's tasks as long as they are able.  Our goal is to provide each resident with meaningful experiences through activity participation.  This increases their self-esteem.  Various types of activities help them maintain intellectual, cognitive, spiritual, social, memory, and sensory stimulation.  Some of these activities include:  Bingo, Music, Baking, Parties, Outdoor Time, Interaction with school kids and other members of the community, and religious opportunities.  We also provide opportunities for our residents to exercise their memory skills and to validate their thoughts and concerns through reality orientation, group discussion and current events.  But, most of all, the staff members of Garrison Memorial Hospital want them to feel secure and safe, happy and content in their new home.  We also have 3 parakeets and a resident cat which give the facility a home-like atmosphere.

We have a family room (see picture above) with a TV, phone, table and chairs, a love seat, and two easy chairs which residents are encouraged to use to entertain their friends and families.  We have even had Homemakers Meetings held there.

Our skilled nursing facility has 6 private rooms and 10 double occupancy rooms for the 28 residents who reside here.  The private rooms are roomy and residents can decorate to give it their own personal look.  The residents who share a room also have many personal items in their area to give it a "homey" look.  That is what our ultimate goal is, to make our residents feel that it is their home!

Five Meal Plan:  The Garrison Memorial Hospital and Nursing Facility also offers the Five Meal Plan for our residents, which further enhances a home-like atmosphere.  This plan allows the residents to "sleep-in" in the mornings if they choose to do so by refusing the continental breakfast and then coming out for brunch.   A continental style breakfast is offered from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m.  They have a choice of hot or cold cereal, eggs, toast, and sweet rolls.  At 11:00 a.m. a brunch is served.  Residents then may pick from two choices, a breakfast choice or a dinner choice.  For Supper they also have two options, a regular supper meal or a lighter meal consisting of soup, sandwich, and a fruit or Jell-O.  they are served a mid-afternoon high calorie snack such as pie, cake, ice cream or fresh baked goodies.  The evening snack consists of a protein snack before they retire for the evening.  Each resident's individual diet is taken into consideration with the 5-meal plan.  Most of the residents participate and enjoy all 5 meals daily.

Restorative Care:  We have on staff 3 physical therapists who, along with restorative care aides, make sure our residents receive the best care possible to ensure mobility and range of motion is maintained.  A schedule of therapeutic exercise and progressive walking programs are completed daily for our residents.  A new restorative care room (see picture above) was completed in December 2005 that gives our residents plenty of room for their exercises.
